Blur - Good Song

Today's track: Blur - "Good Song"
Recommended if you like: Something mellow, Gorillaz, songs that are made for floating on a lazy river.
Where I might have heard it already: It was the final single released by the band off of their last full-length album (before their lengthy hiatus).
Why it rules: Blur will likely forever be known in the U.S. for their single 'Song 2,' with its chorus of 'WOO HOO.' However, they have released an incredible amount of great songs, many of which failed to reach the American public in a sustained way. This is one of their more underrated songs, in my opinion, for its casual but engaging melody.
However: The video below lists Gorillaz as the band playing and shows a slideshow of the animated project of Blur singer Damon Albarn, but I promise you this is a Blur song.

The White Stripes - Little bird

Today's track: The White Stripes - "Little Bird"
Recommended if you like: Blues, old fashioned rock & roll, The Black Keys.
Where I might have heard it already: They used to play it live pretty often, so if you were lucky enough to catch them in concert, you may have seen it already.
Why it rules: There aren't really a ton of bands making straight-forward music like this (at least that do it well). If you're mainly just familiar with some of their bigger songs like "Seven Nation Army" or "Fell in Love with a Girl," this one is off De Stijl, which was their second album. The larger hits started coming a year later, so this album sometimes gets overlooked in their career. Sadly, after The White Stripes announced they were no longer continuing as a band, the only way to enjoy them was to keep looking backwards in their catalog.
However: If this isn't enough for you, I highly recommend the documentary that came out last year which chronicled a uniquely built Canadian tour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Under_Great_White_Northern_Lights).

My Morning Jacket - Circuital

Today's track: My Morning Jacket - "Circuital"
Recommended if you like: Huge sounding songs, echo, Neil Young, band of horses + outer space.
Where I might have heard it already: Just helped resurrect VH1's Storytellers..
Why it rules: They've taken the long way up, but they're now at the top of the mountain. They've been consistently awesome for years now, but it seems like at the moment they're mid-stride, which is a great thing to see. This particular track manages to be long but doesn't overstay its welcome.
However: Fast forward to 1:55 if you want to skip the pre-song story.

Electric President - Ten Thousand Lines

Today's track: Electric President - "Ten Thousand Lines"
Recommended if you like: The Weakerthans, music that sounds Postal Service-ish©, slow builds, driving music.
Where I might have heard it already: Asics commercial currently in high rotation.
Why it rules: Today's song is made by another duo. The group has kind of had bad timing, in that their music seems to find its way our to the public pretty far after the initial album releases. They should be much more popular by now, even though a few of their songs are likely quickly recognizable (another that made the rounds on tv shows for awhile: http://youtu.be/nqo-GMXCSC4) .
However: Please...no one compare this to Owl City.

Intro & Song #1 - Sleigh Bells - "Rill Rill"

For this year's blog-a-day contest, I've decided to change things up a bit. In preparation for next fall's (hopeful) radio show up at BC, I'm going to blog about music this month. However, I'm going to try and keep things simple and just present one song per day to check out. I've been putting together an early summer mix cd for some friends, and I've found a lot of music worth sharing, both new and old. I won't have any genre restrictions, but I will try and keep away from anything that is too over the top for the average listener. Hopefully everyone will hear something they like on here at some point, and if you don't, I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart (seriously, you better like SOMETHING though).

Today's track: Sleigh Bells - "Rill Rill"
Recommended if you like: playing songs loudly, non-rap songs that still have swag, female vocalists.
Why it rules: Amazingly, there are only 2 people in this group. Great production helps fill it out, and it manages to get stuck in your head for an undetermined amount of time (it's been a permanent fixture in my brain since I first heard it).
However: I will deny all responsibility if this gets covered by the Jonas Brothers or something.
